Behind every brand there is a pair of hands and a vulnerable heart. We often lose sight of the fact that no matter how big a brand seems online; it is still a person on the other side of the screen pouring their heart into each artwork, illustration or branding project.
As a young girl, all I ever wanted was to move to New York to work in the fashion industry. My love of fashion evolved to a career in graphic design and almost accidentally to illustration. As a young adult, I received a gracious offer to stay in the Upper West Side with one of my clients, Simply African Living
, to help with a pop-up shop.
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward for him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.” – Psalm 127:3-4
The first thing I ask when someone requests a commissioned original artwork is his or her story. The more I know about you the better I can capture your heart in intricate lines of ink. This particular drawing as commissioned by Magdel for her darling sisters thirtieth, blew my mind. It was exceptionally special for me to work closely with a fellow Christian and hear their heartbreaking story of incredible love, loss and how they have grown together as a family, as individuals and with God.
I first heard about Lynn Shapiro, owner of the beautiful Prestwich Collection
in Cape Town, through Anzel van Biljon (White Kite Studio
) who designed her incredible branding. She popped in to my Tintin in Africa exhibition about a year ago and we started chatting about life in the creative industry. She is one of those beautiful females that you can be instant friends with and I adore her.
I met the lovely Anzel of White Kite Studio sometime last year and she asked me to be one of the sponsors for her upcoming Pink Party Workshop. Happily I sent off some of my Wander Collection limited edition fine art prints to be gifted to the attendees along with a selection of other local brands. Antoinette, owner of the beautiful Langkloof Roses Estate, attended the workshop and fell in love with her new fine art print. She later contacted me to come visit her at the breathtaking Langkloof Roses Estate wedding venue just outside of Wellington in the Western Cape. The plan was for me to get a feel of this venue before I handcrafted a commissioned original artwork to visually represent the beauty of the venue and to create a fine art print collection from the original drawing that would be gifted to each bride that celebrated her wedding with them.
