Ink & Gather

Our very first Ink & Gather workshop took place on Saturday 6 August 2016 thanks to the immeasurably talented husband and wife team, Grant and Lynn, who created Makers and invited me to be a part of it. We all gathered at the Prestwich Collection headquarters at Mason’s Press and spent four and a half hours creating beautiful drawings together. The only teaching experience I have had was in fourth year of art school helping the third years create fashion animations for the fashion students so I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Being able to share my knowledge of ink drawing, the process that I have developed and talking fellow creatives through drawing with the right side of their brains was immensely rewarding. We had the most incredible group of people ranging from absolute beginners to some seriously talented folks.   IMG_4174IMG_4491_1IMG_4208 IMG_4491_4 To say I am proud of the drawings that each person created would be a bit of an understatement. Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic. You all created such a beautifully positive environment for learning, creativity, sharing and networking. Thank you to Makers for inviting me to be your first teacher, Prestwich Collection for letting us use your gorgeous space and to all of our wonderful sponsors: Botane Skin, Mocho Loco, Bright Own and The Deckle Edge. Everyone received a beautiful Tote Bag filled with sponsored gifts including a fine art print that I had made especially for them.   IMG_4472 IMG_4488 IMG_4678 IMG_4675-2 IMG_4491_3-1IMG_4599-2   IMG_2623 IMG_2590 IMG_2628 IMG_2611 IMG_2634   People have been asking me a couple of questions about the workshop so I thought I would answer some here. I can’t stress this enough, you do not need to have any drawing experience. This is for beginners just as much as the crazy talented artistic folks. I will guide you through the process and you can go at your own pace. There is no pressure involved and absolutely anyone can draw with some guidance. Everyone is friendly so you are more than welcome to come on your own and meet some fresh faces. It is also a special activity for couples, mothers and daughters or simply a group of friends. You can create a beautiful Tiny Original for yourself or as a gift for a loved one. Great ideas are sentimental pieces: your childhood home, a special vacation or your beloved pets. Thank you for the wonderful feedback from our attendees. You guys are the best! “The Ink and Gather Workshop with Maria Magdalena and Makers was that one workshop that I needed to rediscover how much I love this – the privilege of being able to communicate your world with others in such a beautiful way and to not be afraid to show it. Thank you for this space – it is invaluable.” – Elzeth “I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to learn a new skill and experience something completely out of my comfort zone in a friendly and inviting environment.” – Crisna “The Makers workshop was a great experience of engaging and having fun with like minded people.
